The COMI RICO CCL 1900 x 900 -13T-AB thermoforming machine built in 1988 in Italy uses the thermoforming method for the efficient and fully automatic production of larger-size details. The thermoforming machine includes, among others: heating station, bulge photocell, cooling coil, mold feeder and conveyor.
The production process begins with the loading of the plate package onto a cart of one of the two feeders. The device, using suction cups, picks up the plate from the trolley and introduces it to the appropriate station of the machine. The gate closes and the picking device is lowered, which takes the first plate from the pack, lifts it and transfers it to the centering jack. To avoid accidentally picking up two boards at the same time, a suitable gauge checks the thickness of the board during this step.
The plate is lifted to the height of the transport grippers activated by pneumatic actuators, which, using a self-braking gearmotor, transfer the plate to the individual workstations of the thermoforming machine. In the pre-heating station, consisting of two opposing heating panels, the bottom panel is lifted up to get closer to the plate and optimize its efficiency.
In the next stage, the grippers of the machine transport the plate to the plasticizing heating station, and then to the forming unit where thermoforming is performed. With a force of 13 tons, the BOTTINI GIANNI press with upper and lower movable tables circumferentially knocks out the thermoformable detail. The air supply is interrupted by a bulge photocell in the forming unit which inflates the sheet to pre-stretch it.
After the molding is completed, the grippers take the molded piece out of the station and put it on the conveyor belt, which transports it to the ejection zone. The thermoforming machine detects defective parts and throws them towards the operator’s station. The total weight of the machine is 29000 kg.
