Description
Rifle Barrel Making Gun Drilling Machine – Year 1995
Jeff Lawrence of Lawrence Rifle Barrels built this machine.
At the time he was making hundreds of barrels each month.
He built this machine specifically to drill, ream and rifle sub caliber barrel from 10 caliber up.
Jeff said he used it to Drill barrels as large as 338 caliber and never had any issues.
With the current drive system it should be no problem to drill larger diameter bores as well.
When I purchased the machine it was missing some parts. I replaced the drive motor with a 3 HP motor.
The Oil pump is driven by a 10 HP motor. Both motors are controlled by frequency drives using single phase 220. The frequency drives create 3 phase power for the motors and allow for endless control over RPMs.
This machine is very similar to the P.O. Ackley machine described in the book, “P.O. Ackley, America’s Gunsmith”.
Included is a copy of the DVDs and book about the Bill Webb’s Barrel making machine. The machine is so close to Bill’s machine that the information will allow the new owner to dial this machine in for best performance.
With this machine you can make barrels start to finish.
It is not a production machine, it is a one man barrel shop.
It could be used for rebore work as well.
This ability would be great for a gunsmith who wants to make barrels for his custom projects and have total control over the quality.
Only half of the frame is being utilized for the machine at this time. A second machine could be built on the opposite side of the frame. I had considered putting a Button Rifling system on this part of the frame to save floor space.
Included is a specialized Rifling head sharpening grinder build by Jeff Lawrence as well. This allows you to sharpen rifling cutters in house efficiently.
Last but far from least, there is tooling for several sub calibers 10, 12,14, and 17. Drills, pull reamers and rifling heads.
A long drill for 22 (no other tooling for 22)
I am not a barrel maker and cannot train the purchaser.
